Last August Major Alexander Dodd took up a gruelling challenge to raise sponsorship money for Padfield Congregational Chapel. Starting at 5am Alex ran over 25 miles in full military kit, boots & pack weighing 25 kg and even managed to attend Sunday Service afterwards.
The Congregational Chapel, which was 188 years old in June, is badly in need of renovation both external and internal. Alex’s challenge raised much money from supporters and friends and that, together with other fund raising activities and some very generous donations, has helped urgent external works nearer to completion. However, there is more work to be done, in particular to the interior of the Chapel and further funds are needed this year.
For the latest challenge, Alex has initiated Padfield Chapel Chase, another sponsor-based run to help fund the chapel's essential repair works. The event took place from 9am on Saturday 6th August and was a much easier, more flexible version of the original challenge. It was designed to be a fun event for the whole family and all abilities. Both runners and walkers were welcome to join in.
